ADOPT-A-FAMILY:

“Adopts” families in transition: needing temporary financial assistance and support to get back on their feet. The adopted families also receive additional support at Easter and Christmas.

BROWN BAG LUNCHES:

Volunteers needed to make 10 brown bag lunches (sandwich, chips, drink, fruit & treat) on a rotational basis so that a total of 100 lunches are delivered to the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room every Sunday by regular volunteer drivers.

Time Commitment: Make 10 lunches once a month, twice a month or as a substitute and bring them to church by 10am Sunday.

 

FOOD  DRIVE:

St Anselm will coordinate the food drive to occur once a year to be delivered to St Vincent de Paul. Volunteer help is needed on the weekend of the collection: accepting & loading. Volunteers are needed.

Time Commitment: 1 time a year assist with the drive.

 

HANDICAPABLES:

Marin Handicapables meet several times a year, giving an opportunity for the physically or Mentally challenged to gather together and socialize.

They gather at Marin Catholic High School for Mass, after which the students serve lunch.  It is a wonderful way to spend a Saturday (11:30am-2:00pm). They can always use more volunteers!

HOMEWARD BOUND MILL STREET SHELTER:

Each month volunteers from St. Anselm’s Parish provide entrees, salads, and desserts for the Shelter in San Rafael. St. Anselm’s provides a dinner every third Saturday of the month. The volunteers receive an email notice alerting them of upcoming opportunities and respond when convenient. They prepare an entrée, salad or dessert .

Coordinator: Judy King de Surville (415) 459-7927, judyaking@aol.com collects and delivers the meal.

Time Commitment: As needed.

 

MARIN ORGANIZING COMMITTEE:

  1. ANSELM’S TEAM: Volunteers work within the parish and larger Marin community to highlight areas of concern in the political arena.

RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE:

Promotes Pro-Life programs in the parish.

Time Commitment: Meet on the 1st Thurs. of each month. Help support special activities:

Respect Life Month (October); “Walk for Life” in SF (Jan.); “Crossroads” Walkers (ProLife witness and educ.)  County efforts [40 Days for Life, quiet witness & prayer vigil outside abortion clinics];

Free Marin Pregnancy Clinic in Novato [donations, clothing drives, fundraising efforts to help provide emergency pregnancy/medical care for women in crisis pregnancies];

Referrals to Rachel’s Vineyard (retreats) and Gabriel Project for families affected by abortion; referrals to Natural Family [classes on Marriage and Family].

SOCIAL JUSTICE TEAM:

Each year, St. Anselm parishioners join other congregations and nonprofits to identify social justice issues that adversely impact Marin’s poor and vulnerable residents.

Our mission is to be advocates for them, by inviting Marin leaders, from the public and private sectors, to take action. We value civility and are guided by Catholic moral teaching and social justice principles. Current Marin social justice issues and concerns include: homeless shelter; health care; housing shortage; immigration reform; child-care assistance; English classes; law enforcement; safe neighborhoods; public transportation; education disparity.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CONFERENCE:

Volunteers make home visits to residents in need who are referred through the parish or by St. Vincent de Paul’s Reception Desk. Financial assistance is provided to those in need to help with expenses such as rent, PG&E bills, food, shelter etc.; this ministry is funded by a special collection every 5th Sunday of the month and by other donations.
