Vespers, or Evening Prayer, is one of the oldest forms of liturgical prayer of the Church. St. Anselm’s is very pleased to announce the opportunity to participate in this ancient service. Vespers begins with the Rite of Lucernarium, the Lighting of the Candles, and continues with the chanting of several psalms, a Scriptural reading, chanting of the Magnificat (the Canticle of Mary), and universal prayers for the Church.
Programs will be provided so that all may participate in the chanting (singing) of the hymns, psalms, and responses. Please join in this beautiful, contemplative service to prepare for Christmas.
Tuesday, December 4 at 7:30 pm (approximately 45 minutes).
Taize prayer is a simple, meditative form of worship, calling us to dwell deeply on Christ's presence around and within us. Mantra songs, prayerful silence, and short readings guide the focus of the prayer in a candle-lit environment.
Friday, December 15 at 7:30 pm (approximately 1 hour).
The St. Anselm Christmas Concert is a Festival of Lessons and Carols featuring the St. Anselm Church Choir, an instrumental quartet, organ, harpsichord, and handbells-sing along carols as well! This is an event for the whole family! A reception with holiday treats will take place in Centennial Hall after the concert.
Sunday, December 17 at 2 pm (approximately 90 minutes).
